Jolly phonics

During the weekend of June 4th and 5th 2016, our Pre-school and Primary School teachers of English and other subjects taught in English have taken part in a ‘Jolly Phonics’ training course. Jolly Phonics is a fun and child-centered approach to teaching literacy through synthetic phonics. With actions for the 42 letter sounds, the multi-sensory method is highly motivating for children and teachers, who will see their students improve their achievement in speaking, reading and writing the English language. The implementation of this method, moreover, enhances students’ acquisition of all 5 language skills, particularly Writing. The Jolly Phonics programme can be extended throughout the Primary curriculum and it enables children to learn and reinforce essential grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Europa International School wishes for teachers who have taken part in this course to find creative and dynamic ways of applying what they have learned this past weekend. Just be ‘jolly good’ about teaching the English language and help your students enjoy the sound of it!
